I think the picture denotes the choices and consequences we make in life. Hence the chess board and the ripples circling out from the two. The choices we make have rippling effects on those around us. The picture is divided into two halves to further amplify the choice we must make: do we support the left or the right? white or black? female or male? The chessboard is at the centre because the result of those choices is all that matters but it's the ripples that overlap and are unforeseen. Notice how the guy is currently making the choice? He is on a tiny stool...hardly comfortable enough to sit on for long. A choice can be hard, uncomfortable sometimes made with pain...sometimes in haste without your thinking cap on (as is suggested by the floating hat)...and sometimes made with leisure as is suggested with the comfortable lounge chair the girl is sitting on.
